When you see her for the first time she jumps right into conversation "People look at sex as a forbidden subject. But where would we be without it?"
That’s not the thought you would be expecting from a 70 year old Jewish grandmother, whose own awakening began fifteen years ago. Her husband Siggi Wilzig left her in a comfortable position after his career as bank president and one of the founders of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. She might have been collecting antiques but when her son asked her to buy him erotic conversation pieces she was at a loss. Although her son assumed she would know where to find such things, she had no clue. Her antiques dealer gave her a strange answer when she asked for his help "Everyone and no one sells erotica". No one displays a statue of a nude male with a raging erection or a female bust being taken from behind.
From that day Naomi was hooked. Her first artefact was a shunga, a hand-painted, leather-bound Japanese pillow book, given to married couples on their wedding night to teach them how to please each other. More than 4000 pieces of art followed, with an estimated value in the 10 million dollar range. When her seven bedroom house could no longer hold the collection she rented an assuming space in the middle of South Beachī nightlife district, set up chronological and geographically themed displays with museum type explanations. In the World Erotic Art Museum even the chandeliers show naked nymphs and dinnerware shows copulating couples and orgies.
This is a history of the world's sexual imagination, realities and dramas. The European section contains shocking oil paintings and the red throne that Catherine the Great owned. The golden devilīs tongue comes seductively out of his mouth and points to the czarina’s intimate region. Highlights in the Asian room include old pornographic scrolls, elaborate boxes with ancient jade dildos and a very explicit Indian Kamasutra bed where the posts are four giant penises.
